Digital Wednesday: Mr. Needles and you...

This week's assignment is a portrait trade. Create a portrait of me and I'll do a portrait of you and we'll post them both together in a show for the end of the year. There are a few great blogs that do this type of portrait trade (draw me, draw you, portrait party, et.) and it's a fun way to do a piece so lets give it a try here.

Extra credit on Illustration Friday

I'd like to offer you guys an extra credit digital assignment this week. I've been speaking to you about how to keep yourself sharp as an artist by working often and challenging yourself frequently. There is a website that offers both professional and amateur artists a weekly thematic challenge. I came across it recently and I find it fun and always interesting. Now that many of you will be graduating high school and moving on you may find it a good resource. This week's theme is "signs".

If you post a piece this week I'll reward you with extra credit (there's 15 days left so it may come in handy seniors)! I'll go over how to post the work on Monday in class but feel free to click the link below and check it out.

This week: Self portraits and you...

This week we are going to create self portraits digitally. Try to incorperate different personal elements such as handwritten text and drawings. I'll be going over a few important tools for the professional artist in Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premiere this week so make sure you make it to class on time. We are going to begin working on the sculpture garden begining on Monday so make sure you have your concepts drawn out and prepared.

This week we are going to be taking the Advanced Placement test so we will not have the regular set of assignments. The digital Wednesday assignment will be due and we will have a portfolio showcase in place of the classwork assignments. Best of luck on the AP test! Make sure your slides, concentration statement, and the artwork you'll be sending are all set to go.
