Studio Art: Printmaking

 

In studio art we are about to begin our printmaking unit and the above  book cover illustration from American Supernatural Tales is an example of an what our first printing project will look like.  The drawing all black and very graphic of a weathered monotone background. 

Our first print is going to be done in a very simple stencil style based on our previous portrait project and it can be literal or abstracted like the example below from Paige.  First I will show some examples of finished prints and we will start with a few initial drawings for our first print in pencil.  I will demonstrate the process in class and show the very simple printmaking process.

Photography: Altered Portraits

In photography class we are currently working on portraiture doing two assignments at once, the (6) studio portraits which we are shooting in groups as well as the (4) three part altered portraits like the one shown above that was the demo in class.

Now that Mr.Needles photographed every student in class it's your turn to go out and photograph students for the PSA Project.  Each student should take 20 portraits of students (and that means 20 students not 5 photos of 5 students).  I suggest bracketing like I did so that you get a good image of each person.

Studio Art: Poet's portraits in words

In Studio Art class we created portraits of notable poets in words for National Poetry Month and here are a few great examples by Victoria, Maria, and Nick of Daniel Hoffman, Ezra Pound, and William Shakespeare.

This week in photography we are continuing our studio portraits so remenber each person should take at least 15 photos and shoose 3 for a black and white series and 5 for a color series.  Above is an great example from our first group featuring Kim and Gigi photographed by Erica.

In photography class we are finishing up our portrait project and today everyone should make any last minute alterations on Photoshop, combine their images into a triptych or quad and save it to our public drive.  Above is a great example by Brianna and below is another by Rachel which has good exposure and interesting poses.

In photography class this week we are working on portraits in groups.  Each group has one day to create take photos in the classroom studio and then each person must create a triptych of three images they created.  We have a number of will models in class but remember make sure the exposure is good before taking too many images and it's necessary to take a number of photos in order to get three good ones to use.  All the triptychs are due on Tuesday May 22.
