National Art Honor Society: the 10th Biennial Global Mural Conference

The National Art Honor Society will collaborate with students throughout NY State to work paint a mosaic mural for the 10th Biennial Global Mural Conference (GMC).  The GMC will take place in Fairport, NY in September 2016 and the theme is “Preserving Heritage Through Community Art”.  The mosaic mural above from Sherbrooke, Quebec home of the 2014 Global Mural Conference and it gives a glimpse of what to expect.  Our society will ask for 6 student volunteers to paint a 6” square for the mural which already has a baclground that will create a larger image of Erie Canal history in the background.

Each student will choose a colored tile, and decide what image/scene will add visual texture to the

Digital Media: Photographing Enviornment

In Digital Media we are focusing this week on creating environmental photographs that have a emotional potency.  The images above and below by Rosalie are great examples of using environment and the elements of photography for impact.

Using the environment to tell part of the story and set the stage for an image can have a big impact- this week's challenge is to create 10 photos that can act as writing prompts which incorporate the environment.  The photos can contain portraits, animals, or just nature itself but they should have an element of narrative.

As with the other images they will need to be editing in Photoshop and include a small boarder and we will now be copyrighting all of the images in Photoshop as well (I'll demonstrate hoe in class).

Studio Art: Artist Research Project

Aakash Nihalani - STOP from Picasso Pictures on Vimeo.

Today we completed the majority of the artist presentations for this semester's Artist Research Project so tomorrow we will write a short reflective essay on what was learned and what stands out in the artwork we viewed.  The full list of artist is on the blog in an earlier post but you can choose which artists you want to discuss to answer the three reflective questions.

Included in this post are some of the films on the artists we watched in class but had to be cut short for time.  The video above shows Aakash Nihalani's full process in creating a street art piece and below is our friend Sean Leonard interviewing Dima Drjuchin about his art and illustrations including some of his epic album covers- Enjoy!
