Art Honor Society: The Sketchbook Project
Today the National Art Honor Society will meet to review and prepare for our first field trip of the school year on Friday to the Brooklyn Museum and to plan the last pages of our collaborative Sketchbook Project.
Our Great Doubts and Massive Victories themed sketchbook is nearly complete so just a few more entries need to be finished to submit the book by the December 2015 break. I've been sharing a few of the entries on social media and the response has been very positive, even from the Sketchbook Gallery itself.
Thanks @timneedles for sharing your students' Sketchbook Project! We can't wait to see the finished product! https://t.co/6MgiTATXUT

Art and Media Art Honor Society field trip to MoMA & NYC
On Friday the Art and Media Art Honor Society had our annual field trip to NYC and this year we visited the Museum of Modern Art and the Henri Matisse's Cut Outs and Robert Gober's The Heart Is Not a Metaphor exhibitions along with the fantastic permanent collection.
The Matisse show was enlightening and it was great to see the pieces we've been studying up close along with background on how they were created but it was also very crowded!
Bring your pictures from the trip to the next honor society meeting and we'll post a few more up on the blog!

Drawing: Illustration Friday- Silence
In Drawing class we are currently working on our Illustration Friday work with the theme of "Silence". My example is above and if you want to take the extra step and use social media to post your work online here's a link to how it works. The advantage to linking your work to the website to to get some real life feedback from professional illustrators and artists which although it might be intimidating at first, its really useful!
Take a look at the statement below from Illustration Friday which gives an idea of the spirit of the critique:
The Illustration Friday community is a supportive, friendly place to view artwork and meet other illustrators, doodlers and creative people online. We have participants from all countries, backgrounds and age groups. We ask that your illustration submissions be mindful of this. Please post nothing that you wouldn't want your mother to see.
If you need help with the posting process I'll be available today after school at during the Art Honor Society and Media Art Honor Society meetings where we'll be discussing: volunteering at the Hamptons Film Festival, Homecoming, NY Comic Con, Safe Halloween, and our fall field trip to MoMA.

Art Honor Society: The 2014 Whitney Biennial Field Trip
The Whitney Museum's Biennial is happening right now in New York City and we are going to learn about why the exhibition is important and get acquainted with some of the artists featured this year.
This year 3 curators each oversee one floor: Stuart Comer (MoMA), Anthony Elms (ICA Philadelphia), and Michelle Grabner (SAIC, Chicago) and each chooses work they feel is important.
Sculptors Alma Allen and John Mason have work in the show along with video artist Darren Bader and fine artist Karl Haendel and looking at the variation in their work gives you an idea of how wide the scope of the show is. This Biennial will be the last to take place in the at 945 Madison Avenue at 75th Street before the Museum moves downtown under the high line. We'll talk today in the club about whether we want to visit the show on our next field trip to NYC.

Art Honor Society Field Trip Reboot
If you haven't heard the news, yesterday the murals at 5 Pointz were all destroyed by one of the owners to end a controversy about trying to save the building vs. it being torn down so we will obviously no longer be visiting it on our field trip next week. We will still be visiting the Metropolitan Museum (and possibly another short surprise spot but we are currently trying to work out the new details and timeline). It is certainly a sad day for art, our club has visited the engaging spot for years and it's always been a terrific experience, below are some of the highlights from the past few years...
