AP Art: Stencil Photo Gelli Printmaking

After creating our first monoprints in Studio Art class with the gratitude prints we will take monoprinting to the next level by adding drawing and layer masks like the example from my photography demo above and from last year's AP Art below.  Each student should create a portrait of a person, animal, or thing on printmaking paper in pencil or ink, cut a stencil mask and print over it creating a mixed media piece.  These prints will be due next Tuesday December 6.

  • AP art should create a series of 11 prints 5"x7" or larger.
  • Photography shhould create a photo print and a photo transfer print.
  • Studio should create a stencil print.

Photography: Looking with a new eye

This week in photography we are photographing the school from a new perspective with an emphasis on detail and looking at what's often overlooked.  Students should take at least 20 photos around school (some of which we take in class) and edit the best 9 together into a collage like the demo I did above.  We are going to use Adobe Photoshop to edit and combine the photos together with our new keyboards shortcut "Annoying Contemporary Vampires" along with other tricks we will go over in class.

The school days collage is due at the end of the class on Friday along with the extra credit (if you choose to do it) which is a spin off from last week's assignment pictured above.  These self portraits are from Sophia, Alix, Irene, and Nick.  The assignment is from IG photographer Josh Johnson's #JJ weekly challenge and it asks for a great black and white portrait which can be tagged @TimNeedles #needlesclass and #jj_forum_0685 on Instagram or uploaded into the public drive by the end of class on Friday.

The assignment is due the Friday we return from break but be sure to be original, the only necessary ingredients are writing and an image the rest is up to you!

This week: Self portraits and you...

www.timneedles.com

This week we are going to create self portraits digitally. Try to incorperate different personal elements such as handwritten text and drawings. I'll be going over a few important tools for the professional artist in Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premiere this week so make sure you make it to class on time. We are going to begin working on the sculpture garden begining on Monday so make sure you have your concepts drawn out and prepared.
