Memorial Day weekend
Today is our final day in May before the Memorial Day weekend so be sure to submit any work and I'll see you all in June. If you are not aware the holiday began on May 5, 1868 when General John A. Logan issued a proclamation calling for "Decoration Day" to be observed annually and nationwide; he was commander-in-chief of the Grand Army of the Republic, an organization of and for Union Civil War veterans founded in Decatur, Illinois. It evolved into Memorial Day to honor military personnel who have died in the performance of their military duties while serving in the US Armed Forces.
