There are 2 extra credit assignments for December: entering the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards which are due by Tuesday at midnight and recording a Storycorps interview with a family member and posting it online by January 2.  Follow the links for more information and see me if you have any questions.

Smithtown East Scholastic Art Award Winners

This year Smithtown East won 10 awards in the regional Scholastic Art and Writing Awards which is unprecedented.  Congratulations to: Andrew Chang, Luke Gelfman, Troy Hallahan, Rose Kong, Kristin Scomillio, and Jamie Werner on winning awards in the nationwide competition.  Special congratulations also goes to Rose Kong and Andrew Chang who both won 3 award each.  Senior Rose Kong and freshman Luke Gelfman both won a prestigious gold key awards and their art work is now being moved forward onto judging on the the national level which offers $40,000 award, an art show in Manhattan, and presentation of awards at Carnegie Hall.

AP Art: Advanced Layering Technique

In AP Art we are currently working on Advanced Layering Technique using mixed media.  The vine above is a time-lapse video of my demonstration from last week so you want to build a complex surface using different media and personal elements.  The final piece will be due on Thursday but remember to submit you art work to the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards by the due date on Wednesday as well!
