The Media Arts Honor Society volunteered at the Hampton's Film Festival again this past weekend and had a chance to meet some of the film industry and see some of this years films. Smithtown alumni Mike McSweeney was at the festival with his award winning film Kush (preview below). He shot the film for director and fellow SVA student Shubhashish Bhutiani.
Students also had a chance to meet actress Helena Bonham Carter and actors Will Forte and Bruce Dern among others as well as helping out with the festival production and voting.

In April we'll be taking another trip to NYC to visit some of the Chelsea galleries as well as art along the high line downtown. The tentative date is April 24 but that is subject to change based on the appointments we make. Currently we are planning to visit the Gagosian Gallery for their Jean-Michel Basquiat exhibit and the SVA Westside gallery for their BFA Advertising and Design Department Portfolio Exhibition.
This week is also the Armory Show on Piers 92 & 94 in Manhattan so if you happen to be in the city and not snowed in again it's well worth check out because there are numerous contemporary exhibitions, check artsy for the preview!

AP Art: Summer Programs
Last week in Art Honor Society we spoke about some of the different summer workshops that were available for high school students and here are links to 4 of the programs that I recommend and have witnessed. All of the schools are very different and have pros and cons depending on your personality and interests so look into the details for a better sense and feel free to ask questions if you have any. The cost ranges from$1000-$4000 depending on food, housing, supplies, college credit, and airfare but many of the programs have need based and art based scholarships as well.
